GPS tracking for lessons

Record the route — on the phone (including lock screen) or on an Android smartwatch (Wear OS). Apple smartwatch (watchOS) is coming soon. Optional auto-start, comment markers, driving behaviour and editable recordings — with the student platform, students see the route there.

Available from version 1.81.4 — auto-start and lock-screen status from 1.84.10

Background and lock screen

Start tracking from the lesson. The route continues while the phone is locked or another app is open — remaining minutes stay visible on the lock screen.

Auto-start from the calendar

Choose Off, Ask, or Automatic for synced lessons today and tomorrow. Set start and end offsets, and see planned starts in settings.

Comment markers on the map

Tap the map to mark moments such as speeding or early steering with a comment.

Hard braking and acceleration

Optionally Outdrive detects hard braking and acceleration and marks those spots on the route — useful when debriefing the lesson.

Multiple recordings, edit the route

Save several recordings per lesson, highlight or delete them. Edit saved routes afterwards — distance and overview stay at hand.

Clear overview in lesson details

In the Outdrive app you can see at a glance whether a route exists — and open it again anytime. A movable banner shows remaining time while tracking runs.

Smartwatch (Android)

With the Outdrive app for smartwatches with Android (Wear OS), start and stop GPS from your wrist — the phone can stay in your pocket.

Smartwatch (Apple) — coming soon

GPS recording on a smartwatch with Apple (watchOS) is in the works. Until then, use a smartwatch with Android or your phone.

Students in the student platform

When the student platform is enabled, students see the recorded route including comments in the lesson details of the student platform.

Android smartwatch – Apple Watch coming soon.

In the Outdrive app — student view with booking

Instructors record the route in the Outdrive app. The student view appears in the student platform once it is active.
